Steven I. Lanzet is a Counselor and Consultant with over 30 years experience working in the counseling, consulting, and addiction treatment field. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Senior, Licensed Marriage & Family Counselor Senior, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Supervisor, and Level 2 EMDR Practitioner.

He has worked in the private, corporate, government, non-profit, and small business worlds in both the United States and overseas. He was an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and held various positions in counseling, teaching, and administration with The College of Idaho, Boise State University, and the State of Idaho.

He is the Founder of Boise Counseling Center and developed innovative and successful treatment and consultation programs for impaired professionals including C-suite business executives, attorneys, pilots, physicians, dentists, and allied health care providers. He also worked and consulted with hospitals, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and corporations throughout the Western United States and overseas assisting with organizational and human resource challenges.

Steven was the Director of the Aftercare Program for Impaired Physicians and other health care professionals in association with the Idaho Medical Association. He was the Clinical Director of two Addiction and Mental Health treatment centers which he helped open in England.

Workshop and group participants find him a knowledgeable, involving, humorous, and enthusiastic presenter who enjoys learning and growing with the people he teaches. People who have been to counseling before may be surprised at Steven’s style. As one client put it, “He’s not the kind of counselor who just sits back, nods his head, and says uh-huh every few minutes.” Instead, Steven is actively involved in listening and maintaining a direct, engaging, and therapeutic dialogue with his clients. He is not shy about giving feedback and responding to his clients.

Steven believes that counseling is first and foremost a relationship and he strives to create a helpful and healing dialogue and connection from the beginning. Don’t be surprised if, along with the tough stuff, Steven uses his sense of humor to help you see things from a different perspective or a new angle. Since Steven loves what he does, we think you will see his experience, dedication, and willingness to help from the very first contact.

Give him a call at 208.908.0500 and discuss your concerns. He will help you find the best solution.

If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

Porn & Sex Addiction Intensive Outpatient Program

We offer this unique individualized 2 and 3 day Intensive Workshop where you have the opportunity to focus on your issue with the help of our highly qualified addiction, trauma, and family therapists. The Intensive is specifically designed to meet your needs with at least two individual sessions with your primary therapist over 2 or 3 consecutive days and specialized services.

The program is trauma informed and will help you get a good start with your recovery program. Although each Intensive will vary, the process will help you identify harmful behaviors and begin healing deep wounds and/or old messages affecting your life today.

Incorporating the work of Patrick Carnes on Addiction and Trauma and using advanced trauma modalities, these 2 or 3 days will address the pain or numbing behaviors you have been experiencing. We aim to provide relief from your issues and give you a definitive plan and tools so you can continue the learnings and growth from the Intensive.

The intensive is designed to
help you become the person you want to be.

The problems people have around sex may be called by many different names.

What we call it is not as important as being able to identify and treat all of the problems listed above.

The bottom line is you may have some form of Problematic Sexual Behavior or Sex/Porn Addiction if:
• You are doing sexual things with yourself or others that don’t fit into your value system,
• You find yourself unable to control your sexual behavior.
• You are not maintaining your commitments because of your sexual behavior.
• Someone in your life is upset with your sexual behavior and has asked you to change it.
• You are doing sexual activities that put your partner’s health or your health in danger.
Take the Sex Addiction Questionnaire - PATHOS and

Preoccupied – Do you often find yourself preoccupied with sexual thoughts? I
Ashamed – Do you hide some of your sexual behavior from others?
Treatment – Have you ever sought therapy for sexual behavior you did not like?
Hurt others – Has anyone been hurt emotionally because of your sexual behavior?
Out of control – Do you feel controlled by your sexual desire?
Sad – When you have sex, do you feel depressed afterwards?

One positive response indicates a need for additional assessment with a certified sex addiction therapist. Two or more are considered to indicate sexual addiction.
Be sure to give us a call if you have experienced any of these issues.

Sex Addiction treatment requires a counselor with specialized training.

We are Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSAT) with decades of experience successfully helping people with Problematic Sexual Behaviors. While other counselors may say they can help, unless they are credentialed by a recognized program, you may spend a lot of time and money and end up not getting the help you need.

The CSAT’s at Boise Counseling Center are certified by the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). This is a cutting-edge training and certification program built around academic study, experiential training, supervision, and assessment competence.

In the early 1980’s, Dr. Patrick Carnes published Out of the Shadows, raising awareness about sexual compulsivity and addiction, earning himself a reputation as the leading expert in his field. As Dr. Carnes’ popularity grew, addiction practitioners began associating their practices with him and it became apparent that a standard of training and certification was necessary.

Steven Lanzet was one of the first group of therapists to be trained and certified by Dr. Carnes and IITAP. As the need grew, Steven obtained his credentials to supervise and help many others get the training and experience they need to be become CSAT’s. He has been clinical director for both inpatient, outpatient, and private practice sex addiction treatment programs.

Victor Durnil received his CSAT over 10 years ago, and along with Steven Lanzet, has made Boise Counseling Center the premier place to get help with sex and porn addiction in Boise and the Treasure Valley area.

In recent times, we have added telehealth and online resources to help other clients in Idaho who may not have local resources available.

Compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) is a recognized diagnosis in the ICD 11, one of the recognized standards that many mental health clinicians use.

CSB is defined as “a persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses, or urges resulting in repetitive sexual behavior.

Because of our training and experience, we don’t judge you or what you have done. Instead, we listen carefully to you, assess where the problems are, and help you create a plan to deal with your sexual and relationship issues so you can get back to the life you want and deserve.

We are proud of the differences our clients have made in their lives and would be honored to assist you in achieving your goals to have a healthy and satisfying life.
